So Mommy racoon and her 4 babies have safely been relocated to a marshy area near Stevens Point. The 1st night the mommy racoon managed to undo the trap door to the cage on top of the chimney and escape back down into the chimney. Smart racoon and extremely dedicated to the babies! The guy had to come back and put a new trap door on the cage and assured me there was no way for her to escape again. Last night worked and she was still in the cage this morning. Unfortunately she had to endure a rainstorm last night.

So after taking racoon and cage off the roof, he took the babies out through the damper in the fireplace. Yeah, the guy is standing on the roof with a net on a long pole and the babies start dropping out of the fireplace damper.  They were kinda cute. about half the size of Digby. And they growl, sounded like a  bobcat kind of growl. When mommy and babies were reunited (in cages, of course) in the driveway it was kinda touching because they looked so happy to see each other. Ok, but they do have really long, sharp-lookin’ claws.  All the while the dogs aren’t the least bit interested in the racoons, they were more interested in the racoon guy, that’s probably how they managed to last so long undetected in the chimney.

Let this be a lesson. Cap the freakin’ chimney!

ETA:  Apparently racoons do not like “Battlestar Galactica” ….
