Things deer do at 3 A.M.

As I was driving home from Wauasau West at 3:00 am (yeah, that’s 3 in the morning), I saw this deer by the side of the road. It wasn’t standing, or walking, or moving. It was just SITTING in someone’s yard. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a deer SITTING. It just looked so odd. Of course everything looks odd at 3 a.m. Maybe it got tired of waiting for the rest of the group. Whenever I see deer in this neighborhood there’s always 2 or 3 together.

the Boomer Chronicles…Part II

So Boomer’s doctor called me today. Blood tests indicate that her thyroid is way out of whack. Which means that no matter how much she eats she will continue to lose weight. Options include surgery (out of the question cuz she’s past her life expectancy and it would be expensive) and drugs to control her thyroid. Easy enough, it’s this gel stuff you put behind the ear twice a day and is absorbed through the skin. Don’t know how much that will cost. They’re mailing it from this pharmacy in Merrill where they make it. Good news is it’s supposed to make a dramatic difference within a few days. Bad news is Boomer will have to have another blood test in about 3 weeks to see if the dose is correct. So Boomer’s problem “is manageable”. And as the vet points out, “old age is not a disease”. More bad news though, due to her age, she’s beginning to show signs of liver and kidney damage.

Boredom…

What did we do before cable TV, cable internet and electricity? I think that’s why people used to go to bed at sundown. The cable was out from 2:30 pm Tuesday until 11:00 am today. No great loss. I had 25 pieces of junk e-mail. Then after an entire day of wicked lightning, the electricity went out at 10:30 last night. We never have a flashlight when we really need one! We watched TV (ok, the 2 non-cable channels) on the 2″ battery TV. And played flashlight games on the wall. Good thing it wasn’t that cold out. We also never have a battery operated radio that doesn’t require a headphone. Still waiting for Boomer’s test results.

the Boomer Chronicles…Part I

I hauled Boomer to the vet today cuz she’s been looking so scrawny and pathetic lately. The vet thinks she probably has a thyroid tumor. She’s lost half of her body weight and is down to 4.6 lbs from 8 lbs 2 years ago. Her hair problems could also be related to the thyroid problem. It also explains why she eats and eats and eats and still loses weight. I’ll get the results of her blood tests tomorrow. I may have to stuff pills down her throat for the rest of her life. But I’ve taken care of her for 17 years, I’m not going to stop now.

It was a dark and stormy night…really

Happy Birthday to Aaron!
